THE Leadership Academy wrote and received a multi-year grant to implement the "Leader in Me" program which is based on the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Dr. Stephen Covey. The program teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader. We value supporting the social and emotional well-being of each child. This program seeks to understand the strengths, interests and values of every student. We will celebrate these strengths to build leaders and create programs that tap into the talents of our students.
We build a school-wide culture based on these seven habits and implement a common language that seeks community and confidence in all. Parent workshops will be offered throughout the year so families can learn about the habits being practiced at school. We welcome you to attend and learn!
Seven Habits:
- Be proactive
- Begin with the end in mind
- Put first things first
- Think win-win
- Seek first to understand, then to be understood
- Synergize
- Sharpen the saw

School WIGS:
At THE Leadership Academy, we grow leaders. To grow leaders, we encourage students to set their individual goals called Wildly Important Goals (WIGs). Students then monitor and reflect on their growth until their goal is achieved. We also set school wide WIGs that we monitor throughout the year.
School Wide WIGs for 2019-2020:
- Reading WIG: As a school, we will read 14 million words that will be tracked through Accelerated Reader by the end of the 2019-2020 school year.
- Running WIG:
Leadership Roles:
We provide many leadership opportunities at our school. Students are encouraged to start their own clubs and run the monthly assemblies. In order to start their clubs, they need to fill out an application, find team members, set a day/time, and hang up posters to attract club members. From there, the student's club will need to get approved and they will plan how to run the club. At the monthly assemblies, students k-5 plan a script and the order of each assembly. Clubs may also perform during the assemblies.
