Fifth Grade

Welcome to 5th grade!

The 5th graders at T.H.E. Leadership Academy challenge themselves everyday in all areas of the curriculum. In language arts, we learn the comprehension strategies and skills that good readers use while reading. We apply those strategies and skills we have learned in our anthologies to various novels and different kinds of literature. In math, a heavy emphasis is placed on fraction concepts, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing them. In science, we study the weather, the solar system, chemistry, solutions, the systems of the human body, and plants. Students also use iPads as a tool to demonstrate what they have learned and synthesize new information. 1:1 iPads

All fifth grades will be loaned iPads to use all year. This 1:1 ratio will allow students to extend their learning in ways not possible without technology. Students will have the opportunity to innovate and develop their 21st century skills. The iPads will be used as a tool to extend our already established curriculum.
